The Problem

The process of medical volunteering is still the same as in the 90s. Medical Professionals have to find opportunities over their personal networks and record patients' data with pens and papers.

My Role

I collaborated closely with the founder and responsible for conducting user research, ideation, wireframing, usability testing, and final visual design.

The Outcome

A mobile application allows medical professionals to search for medical volunteering events, file applications, and record patients' data. Reduced application time from 3 days to 15 minutes.

Discovery

In the beginning, I have no clue how medical volunteering works. I asked the founder to walk me through the process step-by-step. After that, I decided to have conversations with the target users to empathize with their needs and pain points.

Opportunities & Hypotheses

How might we allow users to find a volunteering mission regardless of their motivation?

  • Adding filters for specific purposes leads to easier discovery.

How might we streamline the application and help the user avoid entering repetitive information?

  • Asking and storing basic information, such as specialty and experience, at the point of sign up.

How might we make the patient data collection so simple that the medical professionals can focus more on improving patients' health?

  • Interfaces that allow the medical professionals to record the data with only a few taps.

Wireframing & Usability Testing

I validated my hypotheses by conducting five user tests. With a few final tweaks and adding the visual elements into the design, a pixel-perfect prototype was developed and handed over to the client.

Collect repetitive data early

To avoid entering repetitive information, such as specialty, on each application. I decided to collect and store this information when users sign up for an account. Save user's time and improve user experience.

SEARCH-Main – 1

Refine search

Refine search

The search feature was designed to allow users to apply filters by dates, location, organization, school credit, and financial assistant. It helps the users who are looking for events with specific purposes.

Volunteer Charts – Patient Report

Patient data collection

Filling out the patient report is relatively easy. Some most common diseases can be recorded by just a few taps so that the medical professional can focus on the patients.

Next Steps

  • Use no-code service to build a beta version
  • Monitor conversion and retention rate on of the service
  • Cooperate with the UN and other non-profit medical volunteer organization to promote the application
